About Sumuji Glass
Hello! My name is Chelsey aka Sumuji and I’m a borosilicate glass lampworker.
I began my glassblowing journey in early 2022 in Huntington Beach, where I learned foundational techniques from established artists at a glassblowing studio and quickly fell in love with the process, the challenge, and the endless creative possibilities glass offers. What started as a curiosity has grown into a full creative career, with my work now featured in over 10 different hash companies jars as a bonus accessory, several pop-ups through the state, collaborations across the country, galleries in California and New York, and sponsoring many high volume community events throughout Southern California. You can find my work in over 8 countries around the world from Thailand, Puerto Rico, France, Germany, French Polynesia, and more.
My work is deeply inspired by my love of kawaii art, Y2K era of pop culture, and nostalgic, feel-good aesthetics, with strawberries becoming a signature element of my brand from my very first terp pearl design. The name Sumuji comes from the Japanese word for “smoothie,” a nod to my love of fruit-themed designs and blending bold colors into soft, dreamy compositions. My logo represents two of these terp pearls (miniature sculptures) in a glass jar, which I always include with every purchase.
Today, Sumuji Glass is more than just myself as an artist. I truly couldn’t do this alone and so I see it as a growing creative community where art and shared experiences come together with every person who collectors my pieces or learns from me. I currently have my own studio space where I can continue expanding my work, host creative sessions, and share the glassmaking process through tutorials, live streams, and in-person experiences.
Outside of the torch, I love experimenting with new mediums, designing custom projects, caring for my very full household of pets, and staying connected with the incredible network of artists, collectors, and supporters who make this journey so meaningful.
Every piece I create is made by hand, with intention, patience, and a lot of heart. Your support allows me to keep creating, growing, and pushing my skills further, and I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who has chosen to be part of the Sumuji story.
Thank you for being here and for supporting handmade art.
It truly means the world to me.
